Portland-based blues and rock-and-roll guitarist and composer, Futoshi Morioka, is best known for his melodic contributions to a wide-range of musical talent. Born and raised in Hiroshima, Japan, Futoshi moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1992. He collaborated with musicians including Ottis Taylor, Greggs Eggs, Tony Perez and Second Hand Smoke, Johnny Nitro, Tommy Castro, Daniel Castro, Roy Rogers, Joe Luis Walker, Donna Jean Godchaux-MacKay, Vince Welnick, members from Zero, and opened for groups such as Amadou and Miriam. He is honored to be part of Aka Toe Jam in Hiroshima, Japan for over 30 years.
A deeply passionate person, Futoshi connects the feeling of playing music with the freedom and process of painting. After picking up his first guitar at age 9,
his skills and musical integrity continue to deepen as he collaborates with other musicians and moves audiences through sharing the intrinsic power of music.
He lives with his wife and son in Portland and enjoys playing with Richard Wilkins and at various jam sessions locally and at gigs in San Francisco.
